Pebble That You Threw

Shall It Come Back Again

The waves lashed at your feet, as your feet touched upon pebbles,
thousands of them, different shapes, sizes,
some smooth and some not,
you pick a pointed one up and throw it far into the waters,
it bounces on the surface before finally getting submerged,
as your heart counted the number of bounces.

The sea shall flow over it, rolling and rolling,
the pebbles getting smoother and smoother,
changing shape from a pointy one to a rounder one,
before again being brought back by some tides,
into that seashore, striking the feet of someone else,
and someone else’s hand shall caress it,
probably amazed at the smoothness,
at the mark, the ocean waters had left,
and take it back home as a prized possession.

Would the pebble still remember your touch,
made many many years back?
