How to Edit Your Articles

A 3 step no-bullshit no clickbait strategy telling you what you need to do, not what you want to do.

I always thought editing was common knowledge. I then realized it was not hence this article is born. Here is how to edit your article.

Editing requires time and focus, so understand that it won't be easy as you are looking for errors you have made. Let's face it, who likes finding out they made errors.

When editing my number 1 rule is to install Grammarly. This will fix all the basic grammar errors you may have. Grammarly alone isn't enough which is why I also recommend reading your work out loud to yourself. While reading it out loud, read slowly and listen to how the words flow. If something you read out loud doesn't make sense, fix it and reread that area you fixed.

The third tip that I would say is nonnegotiable is to re-read the whole article again out loud or in your head.

I would also recommend editing at a different time than when you finish your article. This way you get a fresh set of eyes and don't get bored. What I like to do is write the article, then do some basic spell checks and grammar checks, then do something else and come back after, finish editing fully and then publish the article.

So that's how you can edit your articles. Editing is like writing, where the more you do it, the better you will get at it. Take your time and be critical of your work.
