When i fell in love with English Literature

During my intermediate I opted for the subject English Literature just considering it a mere language subject that I needed to study to pass my degree. Little did I know that it’ll change the course of my interest completely. Our teacher introduced us to a play Merchant of Venice written by the amazing Shakespeare, back then I wasn’t of course aware of the position held by Shakespeare in the field of. Literature

For the first time I realized the power of words, the impact of little things in life and

Foremost the vastness of our imagination. Another significant lesson I learnt was that there isn’t always black and white, there is a part called grey. Villains are also humans with emotions. Shakespeare’s portrayal of religious difference, one’s never ending desire of greed and wealth. The significance of forgiveness is highlighted beautifully in this play. To forgive is more virtuous than justice. Moreover, those who put their self interest at back and help others end up victorious at the end. Shake pear’s plays are known to have dramatic plots and twists. He was the one to come up with the concept of tragi comedy. He emphasized on the idea that plays evoke the feelings of catharsis among the audience.

After we were done with the play and discussed all the underlying themes and symbols, I was at complete awe with literature itself. I felt like I need to read more about it. Pursue it further, see how other people have used words as shields, as strengths and to shower their emotions in the books.
