A Scary Time

I was on Twitter recently and came across this video of a woman singing a song she wrote. Her name is Lynzy Lab and she wrote a satirical song about some common struggles women often face. Her song is titled “A Scary Time” (for Boys) in response to the recent Kavanaugh Supreme Court hearings. She makes statements about what a lot of girls are generally afraid of, like not being able to leave a drink unattended when out in public, not being able to go to the bar without another person, and not being able to walk late at night on the phone. Being a girl, I really resonated with a lot of her statements that she made that I think men might not realize or forget about. Lynzy went on Jimmy Kimmel to perform this song and he said that he didn’t really realize how threatened women feel a lot of the time and I think that this is just one example of how people can be facing problems that other people are unaware of. I particularly like this song because it is an engaging way for Lynzy to respond to something that she disagreed with. I think there are so many different problems that so many people struggle with that other groups of people don’t know or understand. This song reached a lot of people on Twitter and other social media platforms but then reached even more people when she performed on Jimmy Kimmel. I think it would be great if there were songs or other entertaining but true and effective creative expressions to inform people about certain struggles, such as race, religion, sexuality, etc. On Jimmy Kimmel, while she was performing, women of different ages came and stood behind her which I think was powerful, especially to see the younger girls stand in the front. When I first saw the video on Twitter I liked it a lot because I related to many of the statements she said about how it felt to be a woman and I think it is important for everyone, not just women, to share some challenges they face so we can all get a better understanding of each other.
