The Sustainable Flyer

When it comes to printed graphic design all sustainability ambitions seem vain. Thousands, millions of paper flyers are distributed every day, worldwide.

The project is about how society interacts with the flyer, how people see the flyer, how they touch, their body language, what they do with the flyer? So how are we going to change the perspective for the flyer?

My concept is on the flyer. I did some exploration for it, First I choose the flyer which was on the Berlin art exhibition for a start and then I started working on Tandem which is a language platform for the audience. So my first idea was like to add some text which connects directly to the reader or talk to the reader, So I put greetings from different countries, for example, Hallo, Hello, Namastey, Ciao, Hola to catch attention from people. The second thing is that the flyer had glue on the base, whoever so read the flyer and wants to take the flyer with them they will not able to take because of the glue. So How would you take details with you? I add the QR code on it so they can scan from the cellphone for the more information.

In addition, I did the second prototype which is Alphanumeric code. There are market strategies which already used and still in use as QR code for advertising their products and so on. So I thought about the Alphanumeric code. People can scan the code and they will check more details about it. It is similar to a QR code but visually there is a difference.

After that, I thought about the screen as a flyer. Which could be used on a street. I found that when a person walks on a street and he/she see a flyer paper from at least six or seven-meter, It is hard to read from that distance because of the eye level and street level. So I did a calculation in the guidance of my professor. We used trigonometry, Also I stretched the font, but with calculation not just like that. So a person can read from the distance. It was like a perspective view from the eye level. Another thing I did experiment with that, I found that I got attention from people. But the thing is that millions of papers are used in a print market and for that billion of trees are cutting each year. All these potential solutions will damage fewer trees but at the expense of more electricity which is also not ideal.

I tried to find a solution for the sustainable flyer but there are pros and cons for each solution. If we save the trees then we are using more electricity. Therefore I could not find a perfect solution.
