Are we all Seekers?

Quest to discover the unknown

In the past few years, I’ve met a lot of strangers and have had long meaningful conversations. Everyone I spoke with had a story, and the one common aspect of each of those stories was that they were all on a journey to find and obtain the unknown. Most of them were looking for richness, peace and/or freedom. In short, they were in search of happiness.

Does that mean that we are all on a pursuit to find happiness? Maybe. I’ve discovered that everybody has their own definition of happiness.

I love this quote by Sonja Lyubomirsky, the author of ‘The How of Happiness’.

As we grow older, we tend to narrow down our search for the unknown and focus on the “known”. We start to develop preferences about our surroundings, for example, one may like Rum more than Whiskey because they have a logical reasoning associated with it, based on their experience. These preferences and ideologies are what makes a person- which in turn shapes who you are. May be finding oneself is finding happiness.

I don’t really understand what finding oneself means, but at this point in my life, to a certain extent, I do know what kind of person I am, what my beliefs are and what I stand for. This has given me the courage to live my life the way I like, without having any external influence; this understanding of myself has made me much more peaceful and calm in recent years.

In this busy world, we are constantly thinking about what our next move will be while forgetting about the present- this creates a sense of feeling lost. I’ve recently developed this “new sense” of being present, for instance, if I’m talking to a friend, I give my full attention to them or if I’m drinking coffee, I enjoy it by feeling the warmth on my tongue and the delicious taste.

Here are some lines from one of my favorite songs called “Time Machine Invention” by Cloud Cult
