The start of my tryst with world of digital marketing

I had not planned to dive deep into this world of digital marketing so soon, put as a good opportunity to learn via internship came up. I took it up, even though it was a challenge for myself to fit this internship into my already busy schedule. Determined, I attended the first class live which started at evening 9pm and a lot was discussed over next 2 hours. It started with us first writing our goals for the program.

My first goal is to be the best possible marketer in this big vast digital world because I know that even if the product is very good but is not marketed well, it wont sell. The second goal is to improve my knowledge of how of the creators of the digital world grow their business online, how do they use marketing to build their influence, what works and what doesn’t. Third goal is to be able to be achieve good sales digitally.

Later we learnt about importance of communication, narrowing niche, economic opportunity in India, integrated digital marketing as some of the important concepts. Communication mediums and tools may change but if we develop good communication skills, the way and how you communicate will stay with us forever as an asset. This skill will help you create a strong personal brand for yourself and will have a lot of shelf life for you.

We also need to go for gold as a lot of wealth is available out heir in the world which is ever expanding and there are infinite number of niches available. In hunter and gatherer society people didn’t require much as needs but basic but as over the years as travel vehicles got developed the need to produce its tools and provide service to the tools used in cars led to requirement, hence the market expanded. As we have more and more solutions it leads to more and more solutions.

While the major niches can be considered as health, money and relationships. We should try to get ourselves narrow down on a small niche such as SEO for hotels, share market for college students. We do this because we want to aim to become the market leader as people only remember the market leader, which becomes our legacy even long after we leave this world. if someone is already taking the top position in a market, you can subdivide it and go for that niche. There are endless options if you think about it digital marketer for politicians or lawyers etc.

The average age of India is about 27 years. Those 20–25 years usually live with parents and don’t spend much outside but those above 25 years spend more as they start earning and probably start living on their own and this spending keeps on increasing as they get married because the household needs keep increasing. Economy goes down when average age goes up above 50, as household spending goes down. Hence the household spending for Indian’s will keep going up in the coming years. We may even be at the brink of a huge economic boom in India. India has this opportunity which can give birth thousands of billionaires in the coming years. Circulation of money in economy grows when more people are in debt. It was empowering to know this, that there is realistic hope for the future of India.

Further Deepak reemphasised investing in developing communication skills improvement was reemphasised via activities like reading and writing more is key because you as a digital marketer need to be good at sales.Also if we think about it digital marketing as a skill will not die because marketing also like a life skill. Marketing and sales have existed as a skill for thousands of years, while digital marketing is an even better way of marketing.

Integrated digital marketing concept was also discussed, which starts with publishing content. The published content which get you visibility through search engines, which further leads to traffic which you can use to monetise via ads or selling products. Hence putting yourself across and being brave enough to voice yourself digitally is crucial as with more content you will be able to own more of the internet space. This happens because more content gives you more and more footprint.

People want to hear from people and not from brands they are looking for a connect. This connect further helps your digital marketing funnel grow. The first class was truly very enriching and what resonated with me the most was the realisation about a digital marketers opportunity to grow in this growing market, while being brave to position oneself in a chosen niche. The adventure begins from here!!
