Benefits of Blockchain for Carbon Offsets

Blockchain technology provides an efficient, convenient, transparent and inclusive platform that is well suited for use with carbon offsets.

This immutable cryptographically-secured distributed ledger allows for reliable issuance and tracking of carbon offsets.

Blockchain technology’s smart contracts secured by a distributed ledger can be configured to access and aggregate operational field data and directly measure and calculate emissions. This type of monitoring results in the ability to verify environmental performance in real time and provides a defensible claim to drive carbon offsetting programs. Smart contracts can also establish high-quality carbon offsets through distinguishing two key factors: provenance and uniqueness.

We plan to incorporate blockchain technology to track the energy production from our solar facilities throughout the course of its lifetime. This will provide confirmation to our NFT holders of the accurate calculation of the number of carbon offsets related to the project, as forecast.

In addition, we will retire carbon offsets on behalf of our NFT holders when they choose to use them to claim their reduction in carbon emissions. We will also use blockchain to record this event.

Having immutable records of the production of clean energy from our solar facilities and assured retirement of carbon offsets will only enhance the use of and utility of carbon offsets in the campaign against climate change.
